Domaine Huet, Wine estate in Vouvray, France.
Domaine Huet is a winery in Vouvray with 35 hectares of vineyards spread across three distinct locations. Le Haut-Lieu has clay-limestone soil, Le Mont features pebbly terrain, and Le Clos du Bourg sits on thin limestone layers, each creating different growing conditions.
Victor Huet founded the estate in 1928 by acquiring Le Haut-Lieu, and his son Gaston later expanded it by purchasing Le Mont and Clos du Bourg. The property grew from a single vineyard into one of the region's major producers over the following decades.
The estate produces four styles of Chenin Blanc: dry, off-dry, sweet, and sparkling, each reflecting the character of its specific vineyard location. Visitors can taste these different styles and understand how the same grape expresses itself differently depending on how it is made.
The winery offers visitors tours through the vineyards and tastings to learn about its biodynamic cultivation practices. It helps to check in advance whether reservations are needed, and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended for walking the hilly vineyard terrain.
Le Clos du Bourg is enclosed by a 9th-century stone wall that frames the vineyard and gives it a historic appearance. This ancient wall also allows direct contact between the grapevine roots and the limestone bedrock, giving the wines concentrated flavor.
