Tigva Monastery

The monastery features a domed cross-in-square design with three entrances, built using reddish stone and measuring 15 by 24 meters.

Tamar, daughter of King David IV of Georgia, founded this religious establishment in 1152 and later became a nun there until her death in 1161.

The northern entrance displays an inscription in asomtavruli script, commemorating Tamar's contribution to the establishment of this sacred structure.

The monastery stands at 857 meters elevation in the Prone river valley, accessible through regional routes within the South Ossetia territory.

The interior walls once contained paintings that demonstrated medieval Georgian artistic techniques, though these decorations have significantly deteriorated over time.
