Samtsevrisi church, Medieval Orthodox church in Kareli Municipality, Georgia
The Samtsevrisi church stands on a low hill near the Dzama river, featuring an octagonal dome and sandstone blocks in grayish-red tones.
Built during the first half of the seventh century, this church demonstrates the architectural evolution of Georgian religious structures with its free-cross plan design.
The church contains two inscriptions in medieval Georgian script, including one about the construction of a water canal during Constantine III of Abkhazia's reign.
Located near Georgia's main east-west highway and railway, the church measures 9.6 by 8.8 meters with a height of 10.6 meters.
The building underwent significant repairs from 1950 to 1953 following damage from an earthquake in 1940, preserving its original architectural elements.
