Nouveau pont de Potidea

The Potidea Bridge spans the canal that separates the Toroneos Gulf from the Thermaikos Gulf in Halkidiki. It serves as the main passage connecting the Kassandra Peninsula with the mainland for all types of traffic.

The canal beneath this structure was first cut in the 1st century BC by Kassandros to separate the Kassandra Peninsula from the mainland. Subsequent centuries saw various maintenance efforts to keep this vital waterway and crossing functional.

The bridge functions as a central meeting point where locals gather for evening walks and special celebrations throughout the maritime season.

The bridge is straightforward to locate and provides views of both water bodies as you cross. Stopping briefly at the side of the road allows you to observe how the two gulfs meet at this narrow point.

From this location you can see two distinct water bodies simultaneously, each with different water colors and wave patterns. This rare occurrence happens because each gulf has its own circulation system that creates visible differences where they meet.
