Suvilahti, Industrial heritage complex in Kalasatama, Finland.
Suvilahti is an industrial complex in Kalasatama featuring nine historic buildings spread across the site. The buildings include a power plant, warehouses, and production facilities, with two large gas holders standing as prominent metal structures.
The site served as Helsinki's primary facility for gas and electricity production throughout the 1900s. In the early 2000s it began its transformation into a cultural and artistic hub.
The site now hosts artist studios, performance venues, and creative workshops housed within the old factory buildings. A large graffiti wall surrounding the power plant reflects how the artistic community has made this place their own.
The site is reachable by taking the metro to Sörnäinen station, followed by a short walk through the Kalasatama district. Most areas are accessible on foot and visitors can explore freely at their own pace.
One of the two large gas holders has been fully restored while the other awaits renovation, creating a striking contrast between renewed and weathered structures. This difference reflects the gradual process of reimagining the site.
