Mäntsälä, Municipality in Uusimaa region, Finland
Mäntsälä is a municipality in the Uusimaa region with forests, lakes, and rural landscapes spread across its territory. It sits between Helsinki and other regional cities, connected by major roads and railway routes that link it to surrounding areas.
The municipality was established in 1585 with the building of its first church for the local community. The current church, built in the 1800s, continues to be a central landmark in the area.
The municipality preserves 15 historical manors from the 17th century, with four of these architectural structures now open for public visits.
The area is easily reached via the Kerava-Lahti railway and Highway 4, which offer direct connections to Helsinki and surrounding regions. Visitors should note that exploring the rural parts is best done with your own transport.
After World War II, a significant group of Karelian refugees moved to the area, leading to a redistribution of land from local estates. This change shaped the community and its makeup for decades to come.
