Oulu City Theater, Municipal theatre in Oulu, Finland
Oulu City Theater is a cultural building located on Vänmanninsaari island with four separate performance stages. The main auditorium accommodates around 500 seats, with additional spaces designed for different types of shows.
The venue was founded in 1931 as Oulun Näyttämö and relocated to its current island location in 1972. Architects Marjatta and Matti Jaatinen designed the new building that became home to the city's theater culture.
The venue presents classical dramas alongside contemporary works, musicals, and children's performances that shape the cultural life of the city. This mix reflects what audiences in Oulu want to experience and celebrate together.
The building sits near the market square and is easy to reach by car or public transport. Wheelchair access is available throughout, and an on-site restaurant serves food before and after performances.
Visitors can go behind the scenes to discover the technical side of productions through guided tours. These visits take people through costume workshops and reveal the stage machinery that usually stays hidden from the audience.
