Jalomäen umpipiha, Farmhouse courtyard in Kullaa, Ulvila, Finland
Jalomäen umpipiha is an enclosed farmyard with more than 40 gray log buildings arranged in a complete rectangular formation around two separate courtyards. The buildings create a closed complex that reflects the typical layout of a working farm organization.
The main residential building began as a smokehouse constructed between 1672 and 1673 and was later expanded with multiple rooms and a chimney. This transformation marked the shift from a simple smoke-based structure to a more functional living space for the farming family.
The complex displays various fireplace models, traditional furniture, and a collection of over 27,000 objects that document how Finnish farming families lived in earlier times. Visitors can see and experience the daily objects and arrangements that shaped rural domestic life.
The courtyard opens upon request through contact with the host using the phone number at the entrance for immediate access. The buildings provide shelter under the eaves during rainy weather.
The site features both a residential yard and a cattle yard, completely enclosed by buildings that form an integrated farm complex. This dual organization allowed the family and livestock to operate within a self-contained system.
