Janakkala Church, Medieval stone church in Tarinmaa, Finland
Janakkala Church is a stone church in Finland built with a brick vault, a single nave, and a half-octagon-shaped sacristy extending from the north side. The building holds around 650 people and remains in active use for worship services today.
Construction was completed in 1520, making it the last medieval stone church built in the Tavastia region. It was erected under the direction of Åke Tott and marked the end of a long era of church building in this area.
The church displays carved medieval figures on its interior walls, including an oak sculpture of Saint Lawrence from the 14th century. These works show the religious craftsmanship that was typical for this region at that time.
The building can be found at Hakoistentie 347 and hosts worship services throughout the year. Visitors should expect an active Lutheran congregation that regularly uses the space for religious gatherings.
A mechanical organ with 40 registers was installed in 1993 using North German baroque design principles. This instrument shows how the building was enhanced with craftsmanship long after it was first built.
