Saint Mary Church, Korsholm

Saint Mary Church in Korsholm is a stone ruin located in Old Vaasa with partially preserved walls that rise above the ground. The bell tower base displays construction techniques from the 15th century and helps visitors understand the church's original layout and scale.

The church was built in the 15th century and served the community for hundreds of years. A major fire in 1852 destroyed much of Vaasa but left the stone structures standing, which survive to this day.

The church served as the spiritual and social center of medieval Korsholm. It was where people gathered for worship and where the community marked important moments in their lives.

The site is easily walkable and open to visitors who can explore the ruins from outside. The area is well-developed, making it straightforward to find and navigate to this location.

The western transept retains its medieval form and shows how craftspeople of that era built their structures. Excavations nearby uncovered wooden foundations that reveal how the community organized its settlement around the church.
