The Mashal's Cabin, Historic hunting lodge and restaurant at Lake Punelia, Finland
The Mashal's Cabin is a wooden log building on the shore of Lake Punelia in Loppi, Finland, now used as a restaurant and museum. The interior includes a central living room, several fireplaces, a kitchen, and sleeping areas that reflect how the space was originally set up.
The building was put up in 1942 by Finnish soldiers as a birthday gift for a senior military commander. After the war it was taken apart and moved in sections to its current location, where it was reassembled.
The name refers to Marshal Mannerheim, the Finnish military leader of the Second World War. Inside, visitors can see his personal belongings and the simple rooms where he lived during the war.
The cabin is generally open during the warmer months, so it is worth checking ahead before visiting. Guided tours may be available, and the number of visitors at one time is limited, so planning ahead is a good idea.
The cabin was not built where it stands today but was fully dismantled and transported piece by piece to its current location. This means that every log and plank in the building is the same material the soldiers assembled back in 1942.
