Loppi Old Church, Wooden church in Loppi, Finland
Loppi Old Church is a wooden building from the 1670s with a red-painted exterior and a saddle roof covered in traditional wooden shingles. Inside, a wooden barrel vault forms the ceiling, and a square sacristy occupies the northern wall.
The church was built in the 1670s after Loppi parish was established in 1632. Before that, the area functioned as a chapel under Vihti and later as an extension of Janakkala from the 1500s onward.
The site sits amid remains of ancient peasant communities visible on the surrounding hill. A nearby museum building shares stories connected to this rural past.
The building sits on a hill about 1.5 kilometers from Loppi village toward Pilpala. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and expect a walk through open, elevated terrain.
The roof is covered with hand-crafted wooden shingles that have kept their traditional form since the 1670s. This craftsmanship reflects local building methods that remain visible today.
