Zagreb Zoo, Zoological park in Maksimir district, Zagreb, Croatia
Zagreb Zoo is a 7-hectare facility in Maksimir that holds around 2,200 animals representing over 270 species. The collection includes rare big cats such as snow leopards and Amur leopards, plus various mammals and birds from different regions of the world.
The zoo opened in 1925 and started as a local attraction for the city. After major renovations beginning in the 1990s, it evolved into a modern facility with contemporary enclosures and visitor areas.
The zoo runs educational programs with schools and maintains partnerships with European Association of Zoos and Aquariums to advance wildlife conservation knowledge.
The grounds are spacious and easy to explore, with clear paths linking the various enclosures and pavilions. A map at the entrance helps visitors plan their route and identify rest areas throughout the facility.
The Tropical House holds exotic species in a climate-controlled setting, while the Monkey Pavilion displays different primate families. California sea lions have their own pool where visitors can watch them play and interact.
