Zrin, Medieval settlement and castle ruins in Sisak-Moslavina County, Croatia
The settlement of Zrin covers 14.8 square kilometers of land in the Municipality of Dvor, featuring ancient castle remains on elevated ground.
The castle served as a stronghold for Croatian defense during Ottoman wars until its capture in 1577, later becoming the namesake of the Zrinski noble family.
The site contains two damaged churches and several memorials commemorating the 291 civilians who lost their lives during the September 1943 events.
The settlement maintains a small population of eight residents as of 2021, with access through the postal code 44440 under Dvor jurisdiction.
The fortress changed ownership between three noble families - Babonić, Iločki, and Šubić-Zrinski - before the Ottoman conquest in the 16th century.
