Monument to the victory of the people of Slavonia, Memorial monument in Kamenska, Croatia.
The Monument to the Victory of the People of Slavonia was a steel structure with geometric forms rising 30 meters and featuring reflective panels. The composition stood on Blažuj Hill and presented itself as a fully abstract work.
The monument was inaugurated in 1968 to honor soldiers of the 6th Slavonian Corps and civilians who died in World War II resistance. During the Yugoslav Wars, it was destroyed in 1992 after multiple demolition attempts tore away its structure.
The memorial embodied Yugoslav modernism and held meaning for those connected to Slavonia's liberation from occupation. Its abstract forms allowed visitors to bring their own understanding to the monument's purpose.
The site is accessible via a path on Blažuj Hill, though no parking areas or permanent facilities are available there. Visitors should be prepared for varying light conditions and wear sturdy footwear for walking the hillside.
The artwork was so sturdily built that demolition experts required nine separate detonations to completely destroy it in 1992. This difficulty in removal speaks to the strength of the original steel and concrete structure.
