Španovica

Španovica is a small settlement that spreads along the road between Pakrac and Požega, sitting at the southern edge of Papuk mountain. The area is marked by rural houses and fields typical of the western Slavonian landscape.

The settlement underwent significant changes during World War II and temporarily received a new name. Under Yugoslav administration, the area later experienced demographic shifts.

The settlement reflects the mixed traditions that have coexisted in this part of Slavonia over time. You can see this in how the older houses are built and in the way the community maintains its local customs.

The place is reachable through regional roads leading to Pakrac, where visitors can find food and basic services. The best time to visit is during warmer months, when the rural surroundings invite walking around.

The settlement is remarkably small and isolated, making it an example of the many abandoned or shrinking rural places in this region. This fate is shared with dozens of similar villages around Papuk.
