Novigrad na Dobri

Novigrad na Dobri is a medieval settlement with fortress remains perched on a forested hill above the Dobra River. The defensive structures form an irregular five-sided shape, with a rebuilt southern tower rising from the stone walls.

The Frankopan noble family took control of the site in the 14th century and converted it from a defensive post into a residence. The area had been settled as a Roman center in ancient times, giving the place much older roots.

The settlement takes its name from an ancient Roman site that once occupied this location. The ruins and the old bridge shape the place today and link it to this distant past.

The rebuilt tower offers the best views of the river and surrounding land when you climb to the top. The path to the site is walkable but can be steep and slippery, especially after rain.

The stone arch bridge spanning the Dobra River from the 16th century is still passable today and stands as one of Croatia's oldest documented river crossings. This historic span directly links the village to its ancient roots.
