Aquatika

Aquatika is a public aquarium in Karlovac displaying 25 exhibition tanks with more than 100 freshwater fish species, including 40 endemic varieties found in Croatian rivers. The tanks are arranged to show different sections of river habitats, helping visitors understand how these ecosystems function and change.

The facility opened in 2015 with support from European Regional Development funds as an investment in education and tourism. Its creation marked a turning point in how the region presents and protects its river ecosystems.

The facility presents the natural heritage of four local rivers: Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica, and Dobra, reflecting the regional connection to freshwater ecosystems.

The facility operates year-round with adjusted hours depending on the season. Visitors will find the space less crowded on weekdays and have enough time to move between tanks at a comfortable pace.

The tanks are arranged to follow a complete river journey from source to mouth, showing how species and habitats transform along the way. This layout lets visitors trace the natural progression of a river system in a single visit.
