Mirkovci

Mirkovci is a settlement located southeast of Vinkovci, separated from the town by the Vinkovci-Gunja railway line. The area includes a school dating to the 1700s and a Serbian Orthodox church built in the early 1800s.

The area has been inhabited since Neolithic times and later became part of a Roman settlement established around the region. The place experienced several transitions in governance and ownership over the centuries.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas shapes the village landscape and reflects the region's long Serbian heritage. Walking through the settlement, you can observe how this religious landmark anchors the community's identity.

The settlement can be reached by train via the Vinkovci-Gunja railway line that runs through the area. Visitors should plan time to explore the historic buildings scattered throughout the village at a leisurely pace.

The settlement fell under United Nations administration between 1996 and 1998 following regional conflict. This period of international oversight remains a significant chapter in how locals view their recent past.
