Saint Jerome Airport, International airport in Split, Croatia
Saint Jerome Airport serves as the main gateway for travelers arriving on the Dalmatian coast, positioned between the towns of Kaštela and Trogir near the waterfront. The terminal handles both scheduled and charter operations, especially during summer months when the region welcomes visitors from across Europe.
The facility opened in November 1966 at Resnik, replacing the earlier location in Sinj further inland. In 1979, major expansion work took place to support the Mediterranean Games held in Split, which greatly increased the terminal's capacity.
The terminal underwent substantial renovation in 1979 to accommodate participants and visitors during the Mediterranean Games hosted in Split that year.
The site is easily reached by the coastal road between Split and Trogir, around 30 minutes from the city center. Visitor areas provide clear signage and facilities for people with reduced mobility, with summer months bringing longer waiting times.
Steel elements and fabric structures shaped like trees, illuminated by changing LED colors, mark the approach to the building and add an unexpected artistic touch to arrivals. This installation combines modern technology with organic forms, standing out especially after sunset when the colors glow across the forecourt.
