Old Town, Varaždin

Old Town Varaždin is a fortress built from stone and brick with a central tower featuring Gothic architectural details. The structure sits at 175 meters elevation and now houses a city museum spread across approximately forty exhibition rooms.

The fortress was built around 1600 as a defensive structure with water-filled moats and high earthen ramparts, designed and constructed by Italian master builders from Como. These fortifications continue to define the site's appearance today.

The location reflects centuries of craft and artistic traditions in the region. Walking through the galleries, visitors encounter displays of guild work and furnishings that show how the community lived and created.

The site remains open to visitors throughout the year with guided tours available through the galleries. Photography is permitted inside the museum, making it easy to capture your visit.

The Renaissance-style entrance gateway houses an art gallery by the Croatian Association of Artists on its ground floor level. This gate features a distinctive chain bridge that serves as the main entry point.
