Bobovišća

Bobovišća is a small settlement on the western side of Brač island, comprising traditional stone houses nestled into the coastal landscape. The village spreads across modest terrain and is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation that gives the place its distinctive character.

The settlement was founded in the 16th century when shepherds from Nerežišća chose this sheltered coastal location as their new home. These early inhabitants established the foundation for life that continued here over the following centuries.

The settlement preserves the Chakavian dialect, which residents speak in daily life and reflects the linguistic character of this island region. This form of speech shapes how people communicate and connects them to older cultural roots.

The village is small and best explored on foot, with narrow lanes and natural paths threading through the settlement. The nearby town of Milna offers shops and services, so visitors should handle essential errands there before arriving.

During the 1991 war, this location became directly involved in combat, making it the only place on Brač island where direct fighting occurred. This episode marked the collective memory of the local community and left lasting traces on the island's history.
