Severin na Kupi

Severin na Kupi is a small settlement nestled in the Gorski Kotar mountain region along the D3 highway. The village sits at about 880 feet (268 meters) elevation and is surrounded by forested hills that define the landscape year-round.

The area gained strategic importance during Ottoman times when many refugees sought shelter near the empire's borders in the late 16th century. This wave of newcomers helped keep the region populated and strengthened its ties with surrounding lands.

The settlement is home to a Baptist chapel and remnants of a historic castle that reflect the religious and architectural traditions of the region. These structures show how different faiths and local noble families shaped life here over time.

The village is easily accessible by the D3 highway and works well as a stopping point when traveling through the mountain region. Visitors should keep in mind that services are limited, so it is wise to stock up on supplies and fuel beforehand.

The place sits at a crossroads where three Croatian dialects meet, creating a distinctive speech blend found nowhere else in the region. These language boundaries tell the story of different population groups that settled here across generations.
