Kamačnik Canyon

Kamačnik Canyon is a protected landscape where a river flows through towering limestone walls for about 3 kilometers. Wooden bridges and paths guide visitors along the water to a deep blue spring pool at the canyon's end.

The canyon received official protection status in 2002 as a natural heritage site in the region. This designation marked a turning point in safeguarding its rock formations and plant diversity for the future.

This place is a local retreat where people come to walk and experience the quietness of nature. The paths alongside the water are popular with families and hikers who spend time exploring the outdoors.

The site is easily accessible near Vrbovsko railway station, making it straightforward to reach. Comfortable walking shoes are helpful since the paths are uneven and can be wet in places.

The river's underground spring emerges from caves beneath the canyon and reaches a depth of about 118 meters. This hidden origin is unusual because the water source lies far beneath the surface rather than above ground.
