Jasenak, Ogulin, Mountain settlement in Karlovac County, Croatia
Jasenak is a mountain settlement in Karlovac County, Croatia, situated in a karst field at approximately 600 meters elevation, nestled between the Jasenačka kosa and Bjelolasica mountains. The community is organized as twelve separate hamlets spread across the landscape.
The settlement was founded in 1632 when shepherds from Gomirje established themselves in a forest clearing known for its ash trees. This early settlement pattern shaped the scattered hamlets that still characterize the area today.
The settlement consists of twelve distinct hamlets, including Krapani, Zrnići, Kostići, Jorgići, Paligaće, Mašići, Vrelo, Pavliši, Kovačevići, Turki, Jovanovo Brdo, and Kotarine.
The settlement has a primary school, a café, and a shop for basic supplies. For medical care or specialized services, visitors or residents need to travel to nearby municipalities.
The Vrelo spring and Lake Zrnići are protected hydrogeological monuments showing distinctive karst formations. These water features reveal how underground systems shape the landscape throughout the region.
