Drivenik

Drivenik is a medieval settlement perched on a hilltop in the Vinodol Valley with a fortress featuring four round towers and a semi-circular bastion. The structures span different periods and offer views across the valley and surrounding terrain.

The fortress was built between the 13th and 15th centuries as a defensive structure during the medieval period in the Vinodol region. It played a key role in protecting the settlement from invaders and regional threats.

The settlement maintains its traditional stone architecture with houses built close together, reflecting how generations of residents shaped the community. People use the public spaces and pathways to connect with each other and preserve local customs tied to the region.

The settlement is accessible via local roads connecting to nearby towns, and the valley area offers accommodation options in the region. Wear comfortable shoes as the approach to the fortress involves uphill terrain and uneven pathways.

An ancient stone stairway links the settlement to other villages across Klamaruša hill, revealing how residents once traveled through the terrain. Many of these steps remain visible as a quiet testimony to centuries of use.
