Žejane

The settlement of Seiane sits at an elevation of 618 meters in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, near the border with Slovenia.

The settlement forms part of the municipality of Matulji, which received its first written documentation during the mid-17th century.

Local residents maintain Istro-Romanian traditions and celebrate carnival festivities, representing one of the last communities preserving this heritage.

Seiane connects to major transport networks through four international border crossings and the Opatija-Matulji railway station, established in 1873.

The settlement houses speakers of the Istro-Romanian language, with only about 130 residents maintaining this rare linguistic tradition.
