Lipa

Lipa is a mountain settlement in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County situated at an elevation of about 514 meters. The place sits between several neighboring villages and extends toward the border with Slovenia.

The settlement suffered destruction on April 30, 1944, when German forces attacked and damaged many residential and agricultural buildings. This tragic event left a lasting impact on the community that persists to this day.

The settlement maintains its own variant of the Chakavian dialect, distinct from surrounding regions and still used by locals today. This linguistic tradition gives the place a character that outsiders rarely encounter elsewhere in the area.

The settlement is well connected to the nearby cities of Matulj, Opatija, and Rijeka, where many residents commute for work. Local infrastructure is typical for a mountain village, so visitors should keep expectations realistic.
