Lipa

Located at an elevation of 514 meters, Lipa stretches across 15.4 square kilometers between Rupe, Škalnice, Veli Brgud, and the Slovenian border.

The settlement experienced a devastating event on April 30, 1944, when German forces destroyed 87 residential homes and 85 agricultural buildings, causing numerous civilian casualties.

The Memorial Center Lipa Pamti, established in 1968 and renovated in 2015, preserves the local history through ethnographic collections and preserved building ruins.

Most residents of Lipa work in the neighboring cities of Matulji, Opatija, and Rijeka, as the local economy shifted from traditional agriculture and cattle breeding.

The settlement maintains an international border crossing with Slovenia and features a distinct northeastern Istrian subdialect of the Čakavian language.
