Veprinac

Veprinac is a settlement perched at 519 meters (1,703 feet) elevation near Opatija, positioned to overlook Kvarner Bay. From this hilltop location, views extend toward the Adriatic shoreline and surrounding coastal areas.

This settlement grew as a fortified community during medieval times and developed its own local governance system. Documentary records from the early 16th century show the administrative rules that shaped community life.

The settlement reflects traditional mountain life through its layout and how residents move through the village streets. Stone buildings and narrow paths show how people have organized their daily activities over generations.

The settlement is best reached by hiking trails starting from Opatija, which link to a wider network of mountain paths. The uphill walk covers uneven terrain, so sturdy footwear and reasonable fitness help make the journey easier.

The old entrance gate into the settlement features three separate openings of different sizes carved into stone. Inside the village stands a small chapel with a carved date from the 15th century, marking an early phase of the community's spiritual life.
