Villa Münz, Secessionist villa in Opatija, Croatia
Villa Münz stands on the Liburnian Coast, featuring ornate balconies, decorative moldings, and a high perimeter fence that extends beyond two meters.
Built in 1903 by Jakob Ludwig Münz, a stone carver from South Tyrol who established the Rijeka-Pula bus line and contributed to Grand Hotel Pula.
From 1952, the building operated as a children's sanatorium for Macedonian youth before becoming a shelter for refugees during the Croatian War of Independence.
The property remains inaccessible to visitors due to its deteriorated condition, with crumbling facades, broken windows, and structural safety concerns.
The villa underwent nationalization in 1948, transitioning from trade union control to a children's resort before an American-Croatian couple purchased it in 1999.
