Villa Münz

Villa Münz is a Secessionist building on the Liburnian Coast with ornate balconies, decorative plasterwork, and a high perimeter wall. The property now shows signs of advanced deterioration with crumbling facades and damaged windows.

The property was built in 1903 by Jakob Ludwig Münz, a stonemason from South Tyrol who also established the bus line between Rijeka and Pula. It was constructed during the period when this coast was developing into an upscale destination.

The building served the local community across generations in different ways. It provided space for children and later for people in need, shaping the social life of this coastal area.

The property is not open to visitors due to its deteriorated condition and safety hazards. It can be viewed from outside but offers no access to the interior or grounds.

The building was nationalized in 1948 and changed hands and purposes several times before being purchased by an American-Croatian couple in 1999. This shifting history mirrors the political and social transformations of the region during the 20th century.
