The Mosque of Rijeka forms part of the Islamic Cultural Center on Hostov breg, built between 2009 and 2013 on a plot of 10,816 square metres, with 5,291 square metres of built area. Its dome is made of five separate parts that read as one form. Sculptor Dušan Džamonja first made a miniature model, then worked with architects Branko Vučinović and Darko Vlahović to realise it.
Construction began in 2009 with the building opening in 2013, supported by financial backing from Qatar. The completion marked an important moment for establishing a permanent place of worship in the coastal city.
The mosque serves the local Muslim community as a place of worship and gathering where Islamic practices are observed daily. It functions as a spiritual center that welcomes visitors interested in understanding different religious traditions.
