Riječki neboder

The Riječski neboder is a twelve-floor tower with an adjoining six-floor section reaching 53 meters high on Trpimirova Street. It combines commercial spaces on the ground and first floors with residential apartments above and one large apartment on the sixth floor.

This residential and business building was constructed between 1939 and 1942 at the commission of Marco de Albori, who had returned from America to his hometown. The construction took place during a period of significant economic change in Rijeka and reflects the modern ambitions of the era.

The building shows Milanese architectural influence through its ground floor glass section with canopy, representing a shift from traditional Rijeka construction styles of the era. This design was unusual for local building practices and left a lasting mark on the city's appearance.

The ground floor and lower areas are easy to view from the street thanks to the expansive glass sections. Visitors should note that interior access is limited since the building is primarily residential and commercial space for private use.

A Roman necropolis lies beneath the building, revealing that this site had been occupied since ancient times. Its commissioner reportedly accumulated wealth through business dealings during American Prohibition.
