Knin Fortress

Knin Fortress is a limestone fortification built on a hilltop that rises significantly above the town, creating a dominant presence over the landscape. The structure spans multiple levels and provides sweeping views across the surrounding region from its upper positions.

The fortress was established in early medieval times and gradually developed into a major military stronghold. It served as a center of royal authority and played a vital role in the region's political landscape.

The fortress contains five sections: Lower Town, Middle Town, Upper Town, Kastel Lab, and South Town, each representing different architectural periods.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months when weather conditions are most stable. The path upward is steep, so wearing comfortable shoes and allowing plenty of time for exploration is advisable.

The fortress walls extend for 2 kilometers and reach heights of 20 meters, making it the second largest military fortification in Europe.
