Danilo

Danilo is a settlement in the Šibenik-Knin region on Croatia's Adriatic coast. The village sits in rolling terrain with views across the surrounding landscape.

The site became known for Neolithic discoveries that archaeologists found there, leading to the naming of the Danilo culture. These remains show that humans inhabited the region thousands of years before the modern era.

The Danilo culture produced distinctive pottery vessels called ritons, decorated with geometric patterns and supported by four legs with large handles.

The settlement is reachable by car or public transportation from Šibenik and lies relatively close to the port city. Visitors should know that it is a small place that takes minutes rather than hours to explore.

The name changed several times over the decades, reflecting different administrative phases in the region's history. These shifts reveal how political boundaries and governance structures shaped the place through the 20th century.
