Lipik Stud, Horse stud farm in Lipik, Croatia.
Lipik Stud is a horse breeding facility in Croatia dedicated to raising Lipizzaner horses, with animals at all stages of development across its grounds. The facility contains separate stables for breeding stallions, mares with foals, and younger horses in their growing years.
The stud was established in 1843 by Count Izidor Janković and grew into a major breeding operation with hundreds of horses on its grounds. Following wartime disruption, the facility gradually resumed operations and rebuilt its herds in the early 2000s.
The stud preserves horse breeding traditions through its daily operations and the visible care given to the animals across different age groups and breeding purposes.
Visitors can take carriage rides to see the grounds and watch how the staff cares for horses at different life stages throughout the day. Weekday visits offer the best opportunity to observe the animals and learn about the daily work involved in running the facility.
In 2007, horses that had been relocated during earlier conflicts were returned to Lipik from neighboring regions, allowing the stud to rebuild its breeding programs. This return of animals marked a turning point in the facility's recovery and its ability to maintain the Lipizzaner bloodlines that define it.
