Sátoraljaújhely

Sátoraljaújhely is a border town situated at the foot of the Zemplén Mountains on the Hungary-Slovakia border. The streets display Baroque buildings and traditional Hungarian houses that form the visual character of the place.

The town was divided by the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, after which a separate settlement called Slovenské Nové Mesto emerged on the Slovak side. This partition continues to shape how the location is organized today.

The town carries the name of language reformer Ferenc Kazinczy, whose work shaped the region's cultural and linguistic identity. Walking through the streets, you can see traditional architecture that reflects this literary heritage still visible today.

You can walk through the town easily as the main areas are arranged compactly and within reach. Bus services connect to larger cities in the region, and two border crossings to Slovakia allow you to continue traveling if desired.

The Zemplén Adventure Park houses one of central Europe's longest chairlifts, which stretches across the local mountains. This facility offers visitors a different perspective on the region and views of the mountains from above.
