Párizsi udvar, Gothic shopping arcade in central Budapest, Hungary
Párizsi udvar is a shopping building in central Budapest that features a distinctive hexagonal glass dome roof. The L-shaped gallery space displays colorful Majolica tiles, decorative mosaics on the floors, and ornamental balconies across its levels.
The building was constructed between 1909 and 1913 under architect Henrik Schmahl's direction. It replaced an earlier commercial structure from 1817 that had been modeled after Paris' Passage des Panoramas shopping arcade.
The colorful Majolica tiles and mosaic floors show the craftsmanship that Hungarian artisans valued in the early 1900s. These decorative elements reveal how the city blended Western and Eastern design traditions in a single space.
The building sits near Ferenciek tere metro station for easy access. Today it operates mainly as a luxury hotel with restaurants and other amenities available to visitors.
The interior showcases detailed glasswork by craftsman Miksa Róth with a colored glass dome roof system. This roof design creates shifting light patterns throughout the day that change the colors of the space.
