Ikono Budapest, Interactive museum in Budapest, Hungary
Ikono Budapest is a digital art museum in Budapest, Hungary, with twelve themed rooms spread across several floors, featuring light installations, digital projections, and interactive elements. The rooms are designed so that visitors become part of the works rather than simply watching them.
The museum opened as part of an international group of experience museums that appeared in several European cities during the 2010s. In Budapest, it filled a gap for contemporary digital art that was rarely shown in traditional museums.
In several rooms, visitors can interact with light installations that track their movements and turn them into visual effects. This makes every visit different, since the result depends on the people in the room at that moment.
A visit usually takes one to two hours, but since there is no set route, you can move through the rooms at your own pace. On weekends and public holidays the rooms can get crowded, so coming early in the day is a good idea.
One of the rooms is a mirror labyrinth where your reflection repeats in every direction with no clear end, making it easy to briefly lose your sense of direction. Another room lets you paint on walls using light beams, and the result fades after a short time so each person starts fresh.
