Pesti Theatre of Budapest, Theatre at Szent István Street, Budapest District V, Hungary
The Pesti Theatre is a theatre building in Budapest's fifth district with early 20th-century architecture. The structure displays classical design features with elaborate ornamentation and a practical layout designed for performances.
Architect József Hild designed the building, which opened in 1911 and later underwent extensive restoration. After reconstruction, it reopened in 1967 as part of the Comedy Theatre of Budapest.
This venue operates as a chamber theatre presenting smaller-scale productions in a 538-seat hall. Audiences experience more personal performances here compared to the city's larger theatres.
The theatre hosts regular performances and offers guided visits for interested guests. Note that wheelchair accessibility is limited throughout the building, particularly on stairs and in narrow corridors.
Before becoming a theatre, the building housed an elegant coffee house with residential apartments. This earlier use is still visible in some of the interior architectural details today.
