Szigetvár, Historical fortress town in Baranya County, Hungary.
The town features multiple defensive structures surrounded by remnants of artificial lakes created from the Almás stream that formed a protective moat system.
In 1566, Szigetvár fortress endured a month-long siege by Sultan Suleiman's Ottoman forces, resulting in the death of both the sultan and defender Nikola Zrinski.
The Hungarian-Turkish Friendship Park, established in 1994, contains monuments representing the intertwined history between these two nations through architectural elements and exhibits.
Visitors can access the town through regular train connections from Budapest, with the journey taking approximately three hours through the southern Hungarian countryside.
The mosque of Ali Pasha, constructed during Ottoman rule, transformed into a Christian church while maintaining its original architectural elements from both religions.
