Millenáris Sporttelep, Sports complex in Zugló, Hungary
Millenáris Sporttelep is a sports complex featuring a 412-meter concrete cycling track and additional multi-purpose facilities for various sports. The grandstands accommodate around 8,130 spectators and host regular competitions and training sessions throughout the year.
The sports facility was designed by architect Alfréd Hajós and opened in 1896, shortly after Hungarian athletes returned from the first modern Olympic Games. The place later became an important center for cycling and other sports in Hungary.
The complex became the home of Budapest Torna Club, a team that shaped Hungarian sports culture over generations. Today, the cycling races and training sessions continue to reflect the place's importance in the local sporting community.
The facility is easily accessible and offers ample opportunities for training and competitions throughout the year. Visitors should check ahead for current events and opening hours, as these vary depending on the season and schedule.
During World War II, the velodrome's changing rooms served as shelter for people fleeing from authorities. After the war, the facility was later expanded and modernized to host the 1954 Universiade.
