Gerencsérvár, Medieval castle ruins in Vértes Mountains, Hungary

The castle stands at 240 meters above sea level with thick stone walls and a main tower measuring 13 meters long and 8.7 meters wide.

Built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasion, Gerencsérvár formed part of a unified defense system alongside Gesztesi and Oroszlánkő castles.

The site appears in records from 1231 under the name Wdvorhel, belonging to the Csák clan before its name changed to Gerencsér.

The castle remains include foundations, wall fragments, and tower sections accessible through marked trails in the Vértes Mountains.

King Louis I used the fortress as his hunting lodge, as the castle controlled a strategic valley leading toward the town of Csákvár.
