Ipolytarnóc Fossils Protected Area, Paleontological site in Nógrád County, Hungary.

The protected area contains thousands of preserved animal footprints, shark teeth, and plant fossils within layers of volcanic sediments at the site.

Scientific investigations of the fossil deposits began in 1836, leading to the official protection status designation of the area in 1944.

The site functions as an educational center where visitors learn about prehistoric life through geological trails and preserved specimens.

Visitors access the fossils through designated walking paths and receive information at the main center located at H-3138 Ipolytarnoc.

The location holds a petrified pine tree measuring nearly 100 meters and more than 15,000 preserved subtropical plant leaves from 17 million years ago.
