Eiche von Zsennye, Oak tree in Zsennye, Hungary
The Oak of Zsennye was a pedunculate oak situated 1500 meters east of the village center, standing in a silted-up area until 2006.
The tree, considered the oldest in Hungary, existed during the time of King Stephen and remained a protected natural monument from 1958 until its destruction.
Local residents of Zsennye maintained oral traditions about celebrations held under the oak's branches, marking its significance in community gatherings.
Three saplings grown from the original oak's acorns were cultivated by Őrség National Park staff, with one planned for planting near the ancient tree's location.
The oak's image appears on a Pro Natura commemorative coin, preserving its memory as a significant natural landmark of western Hungary.
