Budapest Eye, Observation wheel in Erzsébet Square, Hungary
The wheel stands in Erzsébet Square and lifts visitors inside enclosed gondolas above the city center. The structure rotates slowly and completes one full revolution in roughly 15 minutes.
The installation arrived as part of a redesign of the central square meant to expand leisure options. It has since become part of the regular events held around the area.
Marriage proposals often take place inside the capsules as the city rotates below. Couples particularly use the evening rides for private moments together.
Each ride lasts several rotations and gives enough time to look in all directions. Visitors who come toward evening can watch the sunset and the city lights beginning to glow.
Some gondolas have transparent floors so passengers can look straight down. This effect often surprises riders only during the ascent as the height increases.
