The stone fortification spans an area of 100 by 100 meters, featuring remnants of walls up to 300 centimeters thick and a residential tower foundation measuring 6.3 by 7 meters.

The castle, constructed during the 12th and 13th centuries, became royal property by 1281 and provided building materials for the Márianosztra monastery established in 1352.

Archaeological excavations in 1983 revealed metallic artifacts, 13th-century pottery remains, and evidence of two distinct settlements from the Árpád period near the castle grounds.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins by parking near Mária-kút along the Szob-Márianosztra road or taking a small train, followed by a climb up the steep hillside.

The castle featured triple defensive structures with stone walls and a double moat system, while two 13th-century ovens discovered near the tower indicate domestic life within the fortress.
