Rathfarnham Castle, Fortified château in Rathfarnham, Ireland
The square stone structure rises four stories high with projecting corner towers, thick walls, and vaulted apartments on the ground level.
Archbishop Adam Loftus constructed this fortified residence in 1583 on lands that were confiscated from the Eustace family during the Elizabethan period.
The interior contains family portraits by notable artists including Angelica Kauffman, Sir Peter Lely, and Hugh Douglas Hamilton spanning several centuries.
The castle opens daily from May to September between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM, and Wednesday through Sunday from October to April.
The castle features a seismograph installation from its period under Jesuit ownership, when it served as an earthquake monitoring station.
