Ducketts Grove, Gothic Revival ruins in Killerrig, Ireland
Ducketts Grove is a ruined great house featuring multiple towers of different shapes: round, square, and octagonal structures. The site contains two interconnected walled gardens with paths that guide visitors through the restored historical grounds.
The original house was built in 1745 as a Georgian structure and was redesigned in the early 1820s by architect Thomas Cobden in Gothic Revival style. This transformation shaped the appearance of the site as it remains today.
The grounds were shaped by generations of the Duckett family who made this place central to their way of life and social activities in the region. The gardens and buildings reflect how the family lived and entertained over many years.
The ruins can be explored on foot, with paths through the gardens being straightforward and giving visitors a clear view of the entire site. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the ground is uneven in places and partly overgrown.
A devastating fire in 1933 destroyed the interior of the building, leaving only the outer walls and towers standing. This destruction means visitors today see only the outer shell of what was once a fully furnished house.
