Emo Court, Neoclassical mansion in County Laois, Ireland
The mansion features an octagonal entrance hall leading to a rotunda with Siena marble pilasters and grand architectural details throughout the interior spaces.
James Gandon designed this estate in 1790 for John Dawson, the first Earl of Portarlington, though construction extended over several decades until the 1860s.
The mansion transformed from an aristocratic residence to a Jesuit novitiate in 1930, hosting hundreds of religious trainees over three decades.
Visitors can access the 35-hectare gardens daily, featuring formal lawns, woodland paths, and a lake, with admission fees ranging from 4 to 8 euros.
The mile-long entrance avenue contains giant sequoia trees planted in 1853, creating one of Ireland's most notable tree-lined approaches to a country house.
