Malahide Castle

Malahide Castle, Medieval castle in Fingal, Ireland

Malahide Castle is a fortress in Fingal featuring several towers, sprawling halls, and rooms filled with period furniture, family portraits, and decorative items spanning different centuries. The spaces show how residents lived and what they valued across generations.

The Talbot family received this fortress from Henry II in 1185 and occupied it for roughly 800 years until 1976. This extended family tenure shaped it into a significant landmark in Irish history.

The Great Hall holds memories of fourteen Talbot family members who shared a final meal there before the Battle of Boyne in 1690. This room makes the family's personal history feel real as you walk through it.

The castle is accessible by bus routes serving the area or by train to Malahide station, from where it is a short walk. The grounds are easy to navigate and facilities are clearly marked throughout.

Within the walled garden sits a butterfly house sheltering hundreds of tropical species in a climate-controlled setting. This unexpected living display offers a surprising contrast to the medieval stone structure.
